Weekly Wednesday Update, September 22, 2021

We're showcasing three excellent films by director Alex Cox this weekend, all on 35 mm. We had a flight and room booked for Alex that was derailed by a change in his shooting schedule (he's acting in a series currently being shot in Mexico). That being said, we're still bringing him in for a virtual Q&A for REPO MAN this Friday. Harry Dean Stanton often cited his role in REPO MAN as a high-mark in his career, right alongside his starring role in PARIS-TEXAS. It's also a fan-favorite with great music by the best punk bands of the time. Regular admission applies.

The next two Alex Cox presentations will both be FREE and feature a custom video intro from the director. Alex loves westerns and with WALKER he got a chance to work with a big studio budget and Ed Harris. WALKER screens Saturday night. This is a mint-condition 35mm print housed in the C.U. archives that was struck by Universal Pictures from the original print at Alex's behest.

The Sunday matinee of HIGHWAY PATROLMAN is also a 35mm print from the C.U. archives. Inspired, in part, by stories Alex heard while scouting locations for WALKER, this is a satirical look at an idealistic young man's harrowing training for the National Highway Patrol Academy in Mexico City, and is in Spanish with English subtitles.

We have a bonus feature on Monday night that got slipped into the schedule by IFS staff member extraordinaire, Jason Phelps.

Perhaps you've heard that actor Brendan Fraser is back in vogue? That "The Brenaissance Is Here"? Well, Jason put in a rental request for a 35 mm print of 1999's THE MUMMY, and we'll screen it at 7:30 p.m. Think of it as a primer for the Halloween shenanigans to come next month.

All shows are in Muenzinger Auditorium, where we are capping attendance to allow for social distancing. Mask mandates apply. See you there!
